Kydex® is a line of thermoplastic acrylic-polyvinyl chloride composite material which is manufactured by Kydex LLC, the only supplier of this material. Originally it was developed for aircraft interiors because of its low flammability, but its application has become widespread over the last few decades.
Kydex® combines the properties of both acrylic and PVC components. It derives hardness, rigidity and formability from acrylic and toughness, chemical resistance and attractive exterior finish qualities from PVC. It is especially adept for thermoforming and mechanical forming. It is often produced with a grained surface to improve aesthetics and abrasive resistance. It can also be used as a replacement for leather where it is water-proof and scratch resistant.
Kydex® products at CANUS are commonly produced by way of:
- Vacuum Forming
- CNC Machining
- General Machining
Applications include equipment housings, instrument consoles, seat backs, trays, safety helmets, insulators and cargo liners.
